7th ANNUAL TURKEY TROT SCHEDULED FOR THANKSGIVING DAY

October 30, 2014, Fenwick Island, DE – The 7th Annual Fenwick Island Turkey Trot will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at 8 a.m, with a pre-race workout, sponsored by hipAHA Fenwick Island Boot Camp, starting at 7:40am.  The untimed 2.2 mile fun run/walk starts oceanside on Lewes Street in Fenwick Island, goes south to the Maryland state line and back.  All are welcome, including leashed pets!  Holiday or any festive costumes are encouraged.  Plenty of free parking will be available at Warren’s Station, Bethany Fenwick Chamber of Commerce and Pottery Place Perks Café in Sunshine Plaza, all on Route 1 in Fenwick Island.

There is no charge to participate, but partakers are encouraged to donate to the Global Delaware Fund; the Fund has been selected to be the beneficiary of all profits.  The Global Delaware Fund was formed in January 2011 by chef, restaurateur and activist Matthew Haley of SoDel Concepts with the goal of administering goods and services to at risk children and to those in distressing situations, locally and internationally. Aid provided includes food, clothing, and shelter as well as counseling, scholarships, and educational grants. By way of a hands-on approach, Global Delaware aims to create long-term sustainability for entire communities in need. For more on information Global Delaware, visit: wwwtheglobaldelawarefund.com

Event organizer Lori Martin said, “In recognition of Matt Haley’s incredible commitment to his charity and in his memory, we hope to raise more this year than any Turkey Trot in the last 6 years in order to help Matt’s fund continue the good work he started.  Our goal is to raise $5,000.”

Matt Haley died as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic motorcycle accident in August 2014 while on a humanitarian mission to India and Nepal.
Non-perishable food donations will also collected on Wednesday, November 26 at Pottery Place Perks Café.  They will be donated to Bethel Tabernacle Church of God Helping Hands Food Bank in Frankford, DE

.
Post Trot, a complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and oatmeal reception will be held at Pottery Place Perks Café and is sponsored by Pottery Place Perks Café. Stop in for your favorite beverage before the Trot, too; Perks opens at 7am.
