October 21, 2015, Fenwick Island, DE –

The 8th Annual Fenwick Island Turkey Trot will be held on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at 8 am.  The untimed 2.2 mile fun run/walk starts oceanside on Lewes Street in Fenwick Island, goes south to the Maryland state line and back.  All are welcome, including leashed pets!  Holiday or any festive costumes are encouraged.  Plenty of free parking will be available at Warren’s Station, Bethany Fenwick Chamber of Commerce and Pottery Place Perks Café in Sunshine Plaza, all on Route 1 in Fenwick Island. 

There is no charge to participate, but partakers are encouraged to donate to the Baby Lowe Fund. Cpl. Stephen Lowe, of the Fenwick Island Police Department, and his wife Amanda had their first child this month: Colton.  Sadly, he has been diagnosed with a severe congenital condition known as Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA).  With this condition, his largest arteries are incorrectly attached to the chambers of the heart.  In addition, Colton’s aorta needs to be repaired.  With the long-term outlook as good, this year funds from the Trot will be donated to this young family to be used for out of pocket expenses including lodging, meals, parking and gas, while Colton is treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  Donations will be accepted at the Trot, or can be delivered to PNC Bank, 1107 Coastal Hwy, Fenwick Island, De 19944, or any PNC branch, in the name of “Baby Lowe Account”, or made online: 

Event organizer Lori Martin said, “Both Stephen and Amanda are US veterans, and Stephen has served our town loyally for years.  I’m asking everyone – both businesses and individuals – to say “thank you” to them and make a contribution.  Our goal is to cover all of the miscellaneous expenses for Colton’s care in order to spend nothing out of pocket.”

Non-perishable food donations will also collected on Wednesday, November 25 at Pottery Place Perks Café.  They will be donated toNeighbors in Need.
Post Trot, a complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and oatmeal reception will be held at Pottery Place Perks Café and is sponsored by Pottery Place Perks Café. Stop in for your favorite beverage before the Trot, too; Perks opens at 7am.
Commemorative navy tee-shirts are available and may be pre-ordered with limited quantities to be sold at the Trot.  They are $20.
